General Information of Highway Office No. 11
Highway Office No. 11 is a central government agency under the Department of Highways, with its office located in the regional area. It was established in 1952. Originally named the “Lopburi Highway District,” it assumed responsibility for highway routes in the upper Central region transferred from the Phitsanulok Highway District. The network covered highways in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Lopburi, Saraburi, and Nakhon Nayok provinces, as well as parts of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Kamphaeng Phet provinces.
In 1995, due to the expansion of the highway network and increased responsibilities, the Department of Highways reorganized its administrative structure, transferring certain routes between agencies. The office was renamed “Highway Bureau No. 9,” overseeing highways in Nakhon Sawan, Lopburi, Saraburi, and Sing Buri provinces, as well as parts of Phetchabun, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, and Kamphaeng Phet provinces.
In 2003, the jurisdictional areas were revised in accordance with integrated administrative principles to enhance public service efficiency. Highway Bureau No. 9 was responsible for six Highway Districts and one Maintenance Office, covering highways in Lopburi, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Nakhon Sawan, and parts of Phetchabun Province.
In 2005, the Director-General of the Department of Highways ordered the transfer of Phetchabun Highway District 2 (Bueng Sam Phan) to Highway Bureau No. 6 (Phetchabun) effective September 13, 2005. As a result, the bureau was left with five Highway Districts and one Maintenance Office under its supervision.
In 2015, the Ministerial Regulation on the Organization of the Department of Highways, Ministry of Transport (B.E. 2558), published in the Royal Gazette on January 27, 2015, changed the name “Highway Bureau” to “Highway Office.” The area of responsibility remained consistent with that of the former Highway Bureau No. 9, in accordance with Department of Highways Order No. J.1.9/5/2558 dated February 19, 2015. Following this administrative restructuring and the Ministry of Transport announcement dated February 10, 2015, all former Highway Districts and Maintenance Offices were officially renamed “Highway Districts.”
